Recently, a video from the match was posted online, where a boy runs through the entire field, despite unsuccessful attempts by rivals to stop him. The video caused a negative reaction: the boy was accused of foul play.
Source: Oddity CentralVaka Tuitupou (Vaka Tuitupou) is a seven—year-old boy, but he already weighs about a hundred kilograms and is two heads taller than his peers.
He's also a good rugby player, which is not surprising given his physical advantages. His team often releases the boy on the field when necessary. In the video that blew up the Internet, Waka breaks through the opposing team, which unsuccessfully tries to stop him in order to "make an attempt".
The video was originally posted by the boy's father to showcase his son's talent, but ended up going viral for a completely different reason. People started complaining that Waka had an advantage over his opponents due to his size, and some said that he should be moved to a different age group to prevent injuries to other children. There was even talk of changing the structure of junior rugby league from age groups to weight groups.
According to Vaka's father, the controversy, which soon spread from social networks to the main media portals, negatively affected the boy. After all, it's not his fault that he's bigger than other kids and he follows the rules of the game. His coach and teammates love Vaka very much and describe him as a shy "kind giant" who wouldn't hurt a fly. He just wants to play rugby.
In response to the negative reaction online, the head of the New South Wales Rugby League, BJ Mather, stated that they already limit the appearance of Waka on the field during the season: "He participated in five games throughout the season."
Nasser Matta, president of the St John's Eagles club, said that the Waca is aware of its size and always makes sure not to harm opponents. "If Waka wanted to, he could lift the child with one hand. He's a good guy from a good family and just loves rugby. I don't want the kid to think he doesn't deserve to play because of his size," Matta said.
