Therefore, the "gentlemen of fortune" are forced to constantly be in search of new methods of deceiving citizens. Unfortunately, it is still too early to say that their imagination is running out.
The scheme of deception with a call from a "bank security service employee", which no longer pleases with a charming novelty, has changed not so long ago. Crooks still call potential victims on mobile phones, only they no longer ask for personal data. Now they just hack the phone and take whatever they want from the accounts.
The method can be called highly effective, since a record of embezzlement of funds from one victim has already been set — 3.5 million rubles. Despite the fact that real professionals work in this field, it is quite possible to protect your money from theft.
One of the victims of the actions of the attackers in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta told a scheme that deprived him of hard-earned money.
An imaginary bank employee said that since almost all of the client's transactions were made from the Moscow region, and this time they decided to withdraw a large amount in the Rostov region, the security service considered the operation suspicious and blocked it.
The victim was reassured by the fact that the caller did not require a password, a CVC code, or any other data that criminals usually hunt for. He simply suggested checking the list of devices that have access to the cardholder's personal account. The reconciliation of Android and iOS OS, according to the victim of fraudsters, became the main topic of the phone conversation.
When the victim informed the attackers about which operating system he was using, they suggested that he block the unused platform so that it would be impossible to perform operations in his personal account from it. To do this, they suggested installing the Teamviewer program, which allows an outsider to connect to the user's smartphone.
To do this, it was necessary to install the program and call the code number on the phone. Having gained full control over the gadget, the attackers transferred money from the owner's account to their own accounts. The most annoying thing about all this is that it will not be easy to prove malicious intent, since the owner of the smartphone installed the application himself and voluntarily provided his ID to access the system to an outsider.
A person who lost a record 3.5 million rubles was deceived in a slightly different way. He also received a call allegedly from the bank and was informed that the amount of 50 thousand rubles had been debited from his card. The call came from the bank's hotline number and did not arouse the slightest suspicion.
When the account owner reported that he had not performed such a transaction, he was offered to be safe and transfer all the money to a reserve account. To do this, it was necessary to log into the personal account of the mobile bank, after which the phone conversation will switch to the answering machine mode. The account owner had to tell the "answering machine" the codes that came in SMS messages to block the main account and transfer funds to the reserve account.
According to the victim, in this case, the fraudster also did not ask for any information about himself or a bank card and behaved professionally and very convincingly. During the conversation, the victim even heard the noise of a real call center in the background, which also served to lull vigilance.
After the man called the answering machine the codes of 4 SMS messages, they began to withdraw money from his account for 100 thousand at a time. The translations were carried out very quickly and in different cities of Russia. As a result, all 3.5 million savings were "gone" in a couple of minutes.
How to protect your money from brazen, very professionally working intruders? It is absolutely clear that criminals do not sit idly by and come up with various, sometimes very convincing schemes of theft. But in order not to become a victim of fraudsters, you do not need to make special efforts or have special knowledge in the banking sector. If the bank called you and said, "Your last transaction seemed doubtful to us, did you make it?", just answer that you did not make it and immediately say goodbye to the interlocutor.
After that, you need to call the bank to the hotline, the number of which is on the website of the financial institution and, often, on the bank card. Ask if someone really tried to debit money from your card and if the bank staff called you about it. Even if the call was from the bank and the money was actually stolen, you have the right to compensation, for which you only need to write a statement within a day. Of course, for security reasons, do not install Teamviewer or any unfamiliar programs on your electronic devices.
Finally, it is worth recalling that effective deception schemes are still being used in the late 90s, which, oddly enough, our fellow citizens are still buying into.
