On January 17, the Lumiere Brothers Photography Center opens the first exhibition in Russia of one of the most famous Hollywood photographers, Douglas Kirkland. In the exhibition "Behind the Scenes", the public will see more than 140 of the best pictures of the master.

Today Kirkland is 84 years old. He started his career as an assistant to the legendary Irwin Penn, but very quickly he became an idol for millions. He has rare photographs of Coco Chanel and Audrey Hepburn, a cult series with Marilyn Monroe, work with Marlene Dietrich, Brigitte Bardot, Sophia Loren, Robert de Niro, Jack Nicholson, Leonardo DiCaprio, as well as filming behind the scenes of famous Hollywood blockbusters.

Coco Chanel in her atelier. 31 Cambon Street, Paris, 1962. A whole series of pictures of the opening day at the Lumiere Brothers Photography Center is dedicated to the life and work of 79-year-old Coco Chanel. For three weeks, Kirkland followed the most famous couturier of all time to capture her preparations for fashion shows, everyday worries and walks around Versailles.

As a behind-the-scenes photographer, Douglas Kirkland has documented the filming process of more than 170 Hollywood blockbusters and independent films since the early 1960s. Among them: "The Sound of Music" (1965), "2001: A Space Odyssey" (1968), "Titanic" (1997), "Moulin Rouge!" (2001), "The Great Gatsby" (2013).

Peter McNicol, Meryl Streep and Kevin Kline. "Sophie's choice." New York, 1982. In 1982, Kirkland went behind the scenes of the film adaptation of the novel "Sophie's Choice". The role of a Polish woman who lost her husband and children in a Nazi camp was played by a young Meryl Streep. Her partners on the site were future stars Peter McNicol and Kevin Kline.
