By Pictolic https://pictolic.com/article/rare-photos-of-the-construction-of-bam.htmlWe know that the construction of the Baikal-Amur Mainline, BAM, is a grandiose Komsomol construction project that took place in Siberia and the Far East from 1974 to 1984. In fact, the construction of this railway line began much earlier, back in the 1930s. At that time, the main workforce was prisoners from Stalin's camps. But the BAM "construction project of the century" reached its full scope in the 70s. We offer you rare photographs taken in different years on different sections of this line.

In 1974, thousands of students and just guys and girls went to the impassable Siberian taiga to perform a real labor feat. Some of them were attracted by romance, some by the desire to be involved in historical construction, and some just wanted to earn money.

What do you think motivated these young people – ideals, the spirit of the times or a desire for adventure? Share your thoughts and stories, perhaps there are also participants in this great construction project in your family!
