Mercury met Jim Hutton in a nightclub in 1984 and offered to treat him to a drink. He politely declined. Jim didn't recognize the rock star until a few months later, in a restaurant, Hutton's friend exclaimed, "Freddie Mercury is behind you!" They talked, but there was no relationship for another year.
Two years later, Jim Hutton moved into Mercury's house and stayed with him until his death in 1991.
When Freddie found out about the AIDS diagnosis, he offered Hutton to leave, but he refused and took care of the dying man until the very end.
After the death of Freddie Mercury, Jim inherited 500 thousand pounds (about 574 thousand euros) and a plot of land in Ireland, where he built a house.
Jim Hutton died in 2010 from lung cancer. He has lived with HIV for more than 20 years.
