It’s not just a cute joke or a fashion accessory. Knitted clothes help these cute birds cope with difficulties that can threaten their lives. Want to know how knitted clothes save penguins? Read our article and discover amazing facts about these inhabitants of Antarctica
Penguins in sweaters look very cute, but these outfits are not for their beauty. When there is an oil spill in the ocean, penguins can get caught in the oil slick and get dirty.
This is very dangerous for birds because oil destroys the special fatty impregnation on feathers. And it is this important layer on the plumage that warms penguins and helps them stay dry. Without this layer, birds begin to freeze and cannot swim normally.
To protect the birds from the cold and give rescuers time to clean up the oil, they are dressed in sweaters. These knitted "clothes" help keep the oil from spreading throughout the body and also prevent the penguins from pulling out their feathers due to stress.
Sometimes penguins lose feathers faster than they can grow new ones. In such cases, sweaters also come to the rescue, protecting the skin from cold and sunburn.
Once the penguins are finally washed and cleaned, the sweaters are no longer needed. They are simply thrown away, and the penguins are returned to their natural habitat, ready to swim in the ocean and enjoy life again. The sweaters are a temporary measure that helps save the lives of these wonderful birds!
