Ordering a prom dress online: expectation and reality

American teenage girls showed shocking differences on Twitter between the dresses they expected to receive when ordering online and which were actually sent to them. Many outfits were ordered on the websites of Asian companies with a bad reputation. Some girls look heartbroken, while others are more amused by this situation. In any case, it is better to try on a dress before buying, especially such a symbolically important one.

For most schoolgirls, the main part of their prom is the dress. It is all the more insulting to discover that the outfit that came by mail does not look at all as glamorous as on the website when ordering — it is cheap, deformed, covered with folds or it lacks details at all.

In reality, the dresses are made of cheaper materials, they don't fit well and they have fewer decorative elements than the photos promised.

Many of the dresses with flaws were ordered from scammers from Asia, known for absurdly low prices, attractive marketing and fake photos.

In the photo on the right, you can hardly recognize the item of clothing, but it is clearly not the same dress that is depicted on the left.

Sites like SheIn, Sweetheart Girl and Shop In Dress have received complaints many times due to untrue photos and the inability to return a thing that did not fit.

It seems that companies will not respond to these complaints. One deceived client said that in response to her dissatisfaction with the dress, the seller suggested that she "keep it for herself and, perhaps, give it to someone."

A quick glance at the sites of scammers, it is easy to notice similarities: incredibly low prices, photos of clothes from many different sources and almost no information in the "About us" section.

It is clear why teenage girls are attracted to such sellers, but if a mistake when ordering a T-shirt or shorts can be survived, then a spoiled prom dress for them can become a tragedy.
