But although horror fans have watched this popular movie to the holes over the years, some facts about Freddie probably escaped their attention.
Nintendo did not want to be associated with Freddy Krueger
In the movie A Nightmare on Elm Street 6: Freddy is Dead, Krueger had a Power Glove for the Nintendo game console. The filmmakers applied to the company for permission to use its slogan "Play with Power" in the script, but the company refused, fearing that its product would be associated with a movie maniac.
Peter Jackson wrote the script about Freddy Krueger
During the existence of the franchise, many scripts dedicated to the famous maniac have accumulated in the hands of the copyright holders — the New Line Cinema company. The author of one of them, still lying in the studio's piggy bank— is the famous director of The Lord of the Rings, Peter Jackson. I would really like to see his creation: judging by Jackson's usual scope, it should be epic.
Just seven minutes
Fans of the film have calculated: throughout the first "Nightmare on Elm Street" Freddy Krueger spends only seven minutes of screen time on the screen. But it was enough to scare the whole world to death.
"A Nightmare on Elm Street" has a Prequel
Those wishing to learn more about the life of Freddy Krueger before the events of the first film, which made his name a household name, should inquire about the series "Freddy's Nightmares". It tells in some detail about his early life - from the school ball to being burned alive.
The series was released in 1988-1990, a total of two seasons were released. He did not gain much fame.
Freddie appeared not only in dreams and movies, but also in cartoons
Three appearances in The Simpsons, two in South Park, one each in Family Guy and Friday the 13th - this is probably enough to consider Freddie not only the hero of the film, but also a cartoon.
Sweater Color
The brown-and-burgundy striped sweater appeared at Freddie's for a reason. Wes Craven is a director with great attention to detail. He chose two colors that are perceived both as the most disturbing and the most difficult to distinguish, and created a combination of them. So Freddy's sweater is both a camouflage and an alarm signal.
Difficult role
Actor Robert Englund has repeatedly admitted that the role of Freddie was not easy for him. Every day he spent more than three hours in the dressing room. First, a special latex mask was pasted on his face, and then makeup artists painted it with several hands. The process of removing makeup was somewhat shorter, but no less painful: it is very difficult to remove a large portion of glue from the face, Englund will confirm.
Based on real events
According to Wes Craven, the "Nightmare on Elm Street" was based on the events of his own life. The first was a series of articles in the local press about a strange epidemic among children who went to bed healthy and cheerful, so as not to wake up later. The mystery of this story shocked the director.
The second was a child's impression of a strange old man whom the future director saw from the window. A man in a rough, dirty sweater and a wide-brimmed hat was walking slowly down the street, after which he stopped and looked directly into the window from which Craven was looking. Seeing that the boy was looking at him, the old man turned and went to the door of the house. Little Wes quickly ran away from the window and hid in the house, terribly scared. Of course, he does not know who this old man was — but he can definitely consider himself the prototype of Freddy Krueger.
Freddy Krueger - rap hero
Freddy Krueger became the hero of rap songs at least twice. The band Fat Boys dedicated the song "Are You Ready for Freddy?" to him, and DJ Jazzy Jeff together with Will Smith - the single Nightmare on My Street. None of them, however, brought laurels to the creators. It seems that Freddie is not suitable for the role of a rap mascot.
Wes Craven played Freddie
In 1996, 12 years after the release of A Nightmare on Elm Street, director Wes Craven himself played Freddy Krueger. It happened in a little cameo in "Scream." Craven appears on the screen for a very short time in the image of a janitor. He's wearing a wide-brimmed hat, a maroon striped sweater, and his name is Fred.
"A Nightmare on Elm Street— is Johnny Depp's first film
A Nightmare on Elm Street was Johnny Depp's first film. However, he did not last long on the screen: his character, Glenn, was killed by Freddy Krueger first. That did not prevent the actor's further career rise.
Freddie's Father - Alice Cooper
In the movie "A Nightmare on Elm Street 6: Freddie is Dead" there is a flashback scene where Freddie is with his father. First, the father beats Freddie with a belt, and then Freddie kills him — nothing unexpected, in principle. Except that Alice Cooper played the role of Freddie's father. It is noteworthy that in this scene both Alice Cooper and Robert Englund were filmed without makeup.
Keeping up with the times
The movie "A Nightmare on Elm Street 6: Freddy is dead" became the first film of the franchise shot in 3D. Now 3D glasses are being put into the official full edition of Krugerian along with the discs, so that viewers can watch The Last Nightmare in full splendor.
Freddy's Day
Many years ago, fans of "Nightmare on Elm Street" began celebrating the unofficial Freddie Day on September 13. The celebrations reach a special scale if the day falls on Friday. On this holiday, fans of the film put on latex Kruger masks and walk the streets, scaring people. Thank God, no one died from fear, but they were scared to hiccups. So be careful on September 13.
