One of the most dangerous trails in the world - Caminito del Rey

By Pictolic https://pictolic.com/article/one-of-the-most-dangerous-trails-in-the-world-caminito-del-rey.htmlIn mid-January, we managed to visit a mountain path, which is considered one of the most dangerous in the world. The trail is located in a place called El Chorro, this is in the southern part of Spain, not far from major cities such as Granada and Malaga.
The trail was built at the beginning of the 20th century for the passage of workers who were building the dam. Until some time, the trail was one of the most dangerous only because it was almost completely destroyed and it was unrealistic to pass it without climbing equipment. In addition, officially access there was closed due to fatal accidents.
Yes, the trail was one of the most dangerous. A few years ago, the government decided to upgrade it and make it a tourist attraction. The budget for the reconstruction project amounted to 7 million euros. It was with this money that the authorities turned one of the most dangerous trails into one of the most exciting.
Officially, this trail should open in the spring, there is no exact date yet. Somewhere they wrote that they should open in the Easter area. But these dates change so often that it's better to score on them.
Currently, the trail is at the final stage of reconstruction, so you can safely walk there. But only when there are no workers, since entry is prohibited there.
We did not wait for the opening, our curiosity could not wait. Yes, and we are constantly on the move and at the time of the official opening we will already be far from this place.
So we came here, waited until 5 pm for the workers to go home, and set off to look at this "most dangerous path." There are a lot of photos in the post, almost no description, but it is not needed here.

I also made a video from this trail, maybe a bit addictive due to the lack of stabilizer and acceleration.

On our channel you can watch other videos from our trip, and there is also another video from this trail, only with comments.

At the moment, this is an exclusive material, since there are almost no photos from the updated trail on the Internet. The same with the video, mostly there are some incomprehensible photos and videos.
So, let's see what the new trail is like.
1. Dozens of vultures are circling near the path above the mountain, I have never seen so many. Too bad there is no telephoto lens.
2. Here you can already see the beginning of the trail and the gorge, through which you need to pass along the suspension bridge.
3. The trail goes along the walls of the rocks, at the very beginning of the trail there is a tunnel for trains through which you can go to the other end of the trail. Although now there is no need.

16. There are several commemorative plaques on the trail for those who died on it. Most likely, these are climbers, because earlier there was no way at all on this trail without equipment.

Yes, after the reconstruction, this trail is no longer one of the most dangerous, and not dangerous at all. We will have to wait again until time mercilessly destroys the path and it becomes dangerous again.
It is difficult to get there by hitchhiking, cars go there infrequently. But there are bus and train stations. I haven't used them myself, but the stop you need is El Chorro. There are also a bunch of all sorts of hotels and hostels for those who need convenience.
