Siberians decided to name Omsk airport in honor of the famous rock musician Egor Letov and even fantasized about what Letov International would look like in the future.

Omsk airport may be named after a rock musicianIn 2018, an interesting project "Great Names of Russia" was launched jointly by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation. Within its framework, 45 airports will be renamed in honor of outstanding Russians before the New Year. Among the "air gates" that will inherit the names of geniuses and heroes, there was also the Omsk airport with the expressionless name "Central". Viktor Korb, who heads the Regional Research Agency, believes that Letov International Airport will become a worthy name for an international air hub, one of the largest in Western Siberia.

Omsk airport may be named after a rock musicianThe authors of the project plan not to rename the airports completely, but to add the name of an outstanding Russian to the existing name. Thus, an International airport named after him may appear on the air traffic map. Egor Letov — "Central". Viktor Korb, as one of the main initiators of the project, claims that the Omsk rock musician deserves such an honor and the citizens will vote for this option.

According to Korb, Yegor Letov is a native Omsk phenomenon and deserves to have his name immortalized in this way. Other variants, such as the names of classics, painters and humanists, have no direct relation to the Siberian city, while the life of the founder of Russian punk rock and his work are inextricably linked with Omsk. Naming an airport after Letov is the least that Omsk residents can do in order to perpetuate the memory of the genius. In addition, Viktor Korb believes that the name Letov International Airport is euphonious, easy to perceive and very easy to remember.

It is quite possible that by Christmas, passengers arriving in Omsk by airliners will be greeted by a new sign with the name of an outstanding musician, which will be placed above the unofficial slogan of the city – "Do not try to leave Omsk." I would also like to hope that the terminals of the international airport will also be decorated with quotes from the poetic heritage of Igor Fedorovich.
