It's an incredibly cute train that's themed around deer. Why? Because Nara is famous for its sika deer, which have become a local landmark. The train carriages were designed in their honor.
Seeing wild animals in the middle of a city is a rare occurrence, but not in the Japanese city of Nara. It has an unlimited population of deer, which are considered sacred and are allowed to roam the streets freely. As a result, Japan's ancient capital has become a popular tourist destination for people who want to see animals freely inhabiting an artificial city.
In December 2022, the Narashika special train was launched to the city of Nara, which has already managed to gather a lot of enthusiastic fans.
The Narashika Train, or "Nara Deer Train," is not like a normal train. Each carriage has a floor that resembles green grass and brown and spotted seats modeled after deer fur.
Even the regular handles have been replaced with special deer-themed ones. And if that wasn't enough, there are also friendly creature banners and illustrations placed on the walls and windows.
Overall, these creative elements create a pastoral atmosphere reminiscent of the city of Nara itself and its cozy parks full of sika deer.
The Narashika train runs on the Kintetsu Line between Kintetsu Nara and Kobe Sannomiya stations; however, since the trains run randomly, it is not always guaranteed that you will be able to get a seat on the fluffy reindeer seats. Still, if you have the opportunity to visit Nara, it is worth a try. You never know. You might even get to ride a cute reindeer train.
