By Pictolic https://pictolic.com/article/most-inspiring-cities-for-woody-allen.htmlAt the festival in the city of Traverse, Woody Allen presented his new film, in the Russian version called "Blue-eyed Jasmine". The picture has already collected a lot of laudatory reviews from film critics, it will be released worldwide on August 2, and we are looking forward to its early premiere in domestic cinemas.
For the past ten years, Woody Allen has made films that almost always take place in European countries, and even the plot is connected with European realities. But in "Blue Jasmine" the main character, trying to understand herself and her life, goes not to another country, but to the beautiful American city of San Francisco. With this film, the brilliant director finally "creatively returned" to his native America.
We have selected frames from films created by Woody Allen in different cities and countries, and we suggest recalling the geography of his film masterpieces.
(Total 9 photos)
1. Drama "Blue-eyed Jasmine" (Blue Jasmine), 2013.
After everything in her life falls apart, New Yorker Jasmine (Cate Blanchett) moves into her sister's apartment in San Francisco, where the film takes place.
2. Romantic comedy "Roman Holiday" (To Rome with Love), 2012.
Film director Woody Allen talks to the leading actors against the backdrop of one of the symbols of Rome - the Trevi Fountain.
3. "Midnight in Paris" (Midnight in Paris), 2011.
One of the film's scenes depicting the protagonist, writer Gil Pender, with the Eiffel Tower in the background. By the way, Woody Allen often adds “writing” characters to his films (the director himself has published a large number of his own literary works since the late 70s).
4. "You will meet a mysterious stranger" (You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger), 2010.
The shooting of the film, which tells about the complexities of relationships between family members of different generations, took place in London.
5. One of Woody Allen's most famous films, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, was released in 2008.
Supporting actress Penelope Cruz won an Oscar for acting in the film, and most importantly, during the filming of the film, she found her husband, Javier Bardem, and later gave birth to 2 children. Plot passions boil, as it is not difficult to guess from the title of the film, in beautiful and hot Barcelona.
6. Cassandra's Dream (2007)
The dramatic thriller tells the story of two brothers living in a working-class area of London. To get money, they decide to commit a crime, but everything goes wrong, and the brothers become enemies. This film is one of the director's trilogy dedicated to the very famous novel in the West "Crime and Punishment".
7. "Sensation" (Scoop), 2006
Another Woody Allen project, which was filmed not in the director's favorite place of residence - Manhattan, but in London. But with the beloved director Scarlett Johansson in the title role. Woody Allen himself also often appears in his own films, but here his role as a touring magician is especially interesting (after all, tricks are the director’s favorite hobby since childhood). Together with the heroine Scarlet, they investigate a series of murders, which also connects this picture with the theme of "crime and punishment".
8. Set in England again: Match Point is a 2005 dramatic thriller.
Former professional tennis player Chris Wilton, after meeting a family of wealthy aristocrats, begins to make a quick career in British high society. However, the plot of the picture contains a tragic ending - the murder of the heroine Scarlett Johansson returns the viewer to the novel by F.M. Dostoevsky. It is noteworthy that in one of the first scenes the main character reads this particular work.
9. "Manhattan" (Manhattan), 1979
In his works, Woody Allen repeatedly uses the image of New York, one of the most famous films about the "second capital of America" - created at the beginning of his film career "Manhattan", which, according to the director, is his least favorite film ever made, but his fans consider this picture one of the most wonderful and beautiful. This widescreen black and white film is a kind of declaration of the director's love for his city.
