Married 62 years old couple says goodbye to each other because they can't settle together

A married couple who spent most of their lives with each other had to be separated and live out their last days apart, perhaps, because they cannot be accommodated in the same nursing home. 83-year-old Wolf Gottschalk and his wife Anita, 81, met and fell in love with each other when their families lived next door in Dusseldorf, Germany. The couple married in 1954 and a few months later, in search of a better life, immigrated to the Canadian city of Surrey, British Columbia. Wolf and Anita had three children, a son and two daughters, they built a happy and successful life in a new place. The spouses were always there, no matter what happened.

But after 62 years spent together, an elderly couple has to live separately for 8 months now, because there is no place for them in a nursing home for married couples. And their deteriorating health only means that they don't have much time left.

Their great-granddaughter Ashley posted a photo of Wolf and Anita crying on Facebook, describing the despair, sadness and pain experienced by the inseparable grandparents all their lives.

Ashley wrote that Anita took care of her husband until January, when doctors told the family that Wolf needed professional care, as his condition worsened — he has developing dementia, lymphoma and heart failure.

The family does everything so that the couple meets as often as possible — for example, it takes Anita an hour and a half to see her beloved.

An even sadder photo is of Wolf sitting by the window hoping to see Anita walking towards him.

However, this is not enough. This situation has a detrimental effect on Anita's health.

Their great - granddaughter Ashley wrote: "My grandmother can't even kiss her husband goodnight. She can't share food with him. Every time they meet, they cry, and it breaks the heart."

For all the time that Wolf and Anita live separately, the family has never been called, although grandfather is in line for relocation to his wife's nursing home.

After this story spread on the Internet, the children received a call and were assured that their problem was remembered, but it was still unknown how long it would take to solve it.
