Magyar poisoner of Nagyrev

In the early XX century in the Hungarian village Nagyrev formed a sort of killer syndicate consisting exclusively of women. From 1914 to 1929, they sent the light almost the entire male population Nagyrev, adjacent Tiszakurt and several nearby farms. The exact number of casualties was never established. What happened?

Criminal case, which was called "the Poisoner from under the yew" or "Angeltale of Nagyrev" began with the arrival of one of the villages in Hungary herbalist Julia Fazekas, also known under the name Zsuzsanna the ol. Settling in Nagreve in 1911, this "fatal" woman claimed that her husband has long mocked her and brutally beaten. But the Hungarian laws at the time forbade divorce even because of domestic violence. Soon Julius Fazekas died after a harmless dinner of goulash.

During the First world war, near the village built a camp for prisoners of war. Single women left without husbands, who fought at the front, regularly visited the camp and entered into intimate relationships with prisoners. In a short time in the village Nagyrev significantly increased the demand for abortion. By the way, Zsuzsanna Olah (Julia Fazeres) 10 times tried to blame for illegal abortions, but each time the verdict was acquittal.

Historian Bela Bodo argues that the criminal case was initiated after the police received an anonymous statement editor of the local newspaper. In the document, the man reported the frequent deaths in the village Nagyrev. To clarify the situation had two detectives — Bartok and Freesco.
