By Pictolic https://pictolic.com/article/life-of-pi-the-guy-ate-fish-and-drank-seawater-for-49-days-to-survive-in-the-middle-of-the-ocean.htmlThe story of the Indonesian young man Aldi Novela Adilan, who miraculously managed to survive in a hut drifting in the middle of the ocean, thundered all over the world. The guy spent 49 days away from civilization, ate fish, drank sea water, read the Bible and prayed for salvation. When Aldi already began to have thoughts of suicide, the incredible happened…
On the 49th day of Aldi's stay at sea without food, water or any other provisions, the 19-year-old was noticed and picked up by sailors from a nearby Panamanian ship. The barely alive young man was taken ashore and immediately hospitalized. Aldi spent 8 days in the hospital, after which he finally came to his senses and was able to tell his story…
It turned out that Aldi was working on a rompong (a traditional Indonesian hut on a raft for fishing). The duties of the guy included the maintenance of the building and ensuring that the light that attracts fish always burned in it. Rompong was located at a distance of 125 km from the coast, so once a week Aldi was visited by employees of a fishing company and brought him everything he needed, including food and water.
In mid-July, a strong storm broke out, as a result of which Aldi's hut was swept into the open ocean. His food and water supplies ran out very quickly. After a few days, the young man had to drink salt water and eat caught fish.
He filtered seawater through his clothes to at least slightly cleanse it of salt. To warm up and cook the fish, Aldi burned pieces of the hut. A little more and the guy just wouldn't have anything to drift on… When the young man was found, he was in a terrible state…
Adilang is examined by Japanese doctors
Fortunately, the story of Aldi Adilan's novel ended well. After 8 days of hospitalization, the guy was transferred to the Indonesian consulate so that his staff would arrange Aldi's flight home so that the mother and father could see their son again.
Aldi is feeling much better now. About whether he plans to return to his work in the ocean, he does not say anything yet.
