These amazing things are created by a married couple. Talented Deniz, as a professional artist, comes up with future images. She is also a teacher of fine arts. And her husband George is simply self-taught. For years he watched the work of his wife, and from her he received a colossal practical education.

This couple chose wood as their material for sculptures. They preferred its natural flexibility and the infinity of shades and natural colors, since they do not use paints in the creation of their sculptures, but use only oil paint and varnish for already carefully polished, completed works.

In the process of creating his works, George cuts out the primary image, the outline of the future masterpiece, and his wife hones it to perfection, decorates and completes the picture.

When processing wood, it is necessary to take into account its most important properties. Dried wood is used to perform artwork. Humidity of freshly cut wood is 50-80%, air-dry (3-6 months of drying under a canopy) - 15-20% and room-dry (3-6 months of drying in a room) - 8-12%. The moisture content of the wood used should not exceed 20. With uneven shrinkage, it cracks and warps.

The hardness of wood depends on the species, humidity and cutting direction. The greatest hardness - with face cutting, the smallest - with radial (with the exception of birch). At a moisture content of 15, the hardness of wood is 1.5–2 times higher than at a moisture content of 30%.

Such species as oak, beech, hornbeam, maple, walnut, pear, ash, birch, etc. have high hardness. Soft species include pine, spruce, fir, poplar, linden, aspen, alder.

The color of wood depends on the climatic conditions of growth. The rocks of the temperate zone (pine, spruce, birch, aspen) are relatively pale in color compared to the rocks growing in warmer zones (oak, walnut, acacia, etc.).

The color intensity increases with the age of the tree. A change in color also occurs as a result of wood damage by fungi, as well as during long-term storage or processing.

The brilliance of wood depends on the reflective features of its surface. Clean cuts along the fibers reflect light better than cut fibers, which give a more diffuse reflection.

The degree of gloss largely depends on the breed, the presence of core rays. The wood of oak, beech, birch, poplar, linden, pear has a semi-matt sheen; maple - silky; birch - moire.

Glitter, like color, largely depends on “the nature of the lighting. With a change in the direction of lighting or the location of the viewer, matte surfaces can become shiny, light surfaces can become dark. This property of wood is important when creating subject compositions, sets such as parquet and especially portraits.

The texture of wood is formed due to the cutting of anatomical elements. The more complex the structure of the wood, the richer the texture. Conifers have a simple structure and mostly uniform texture, due to the different coloration of the early and late layers.

None of the spouses rests on their laurels, so their work is always very effective and invariably beautiful.

As the talented spouses explain, the woodcarving technique for creating hats has evolved over several years. The skills of the jewelers made it possible to cut out large parts of the wood, practically turning the dense material into a kind of fabric. “We realized that hats offer unlimited space for our creative expression,” say Denise and George. According to them, first, crowns, fields, each element of a decorative flower are cut out separately for hats, and then all the details are glued together. Approximately in the same way, shoes and handbags are made, as well as sculptural compositions from various accessories.
