Niagara Falls. Inside view

Categories: Water

The famous Reichenbach Niagara Falls is a complex of three separate waterfalls - Horseshoe, American and Veil. The last two are collapsing into the abyss from the side of the conditional enemy of the states, and in order to see them in all their glory, you need to cross to the opposite Canadian coast. The border between America and Canada passes through the Horseshoe, and here the Americans were again unlucky: the most beautiful view opens from the Canadian side. You can shoot Niagara at different times of the day and from several points, I will show a couple, ”says Dima Shatrov

1. Dawn shooting of the "Horseshoe" with a wide-angle 16-35 / 4.0. Tripod, gradient filters, polarizer, rain protection. Actually, it's not even rain. The wind from the side of the waterfall continuously inflates a fine water suspension, this drizzle can arrange a bathing day for filters and optics in a matter of seconds.

2. One and a half kilometers downstream, the river bed changes direction, and the observer has a view of all the waterfalls of the complex. In this shot, the water mist whipped up by the Horseshoe is being blown away by the wind towards America.

3. In the summer, regular motor ships leave from both sides of the river to the Horseshoe. The pleasure costs $20 and lasts about half an hour; the ship approaches the waterfall at the minimum possible distance. Each participant is given a polyethylene raincoat, ideally protecting photographic equipment.

4. Let's go. On the left side floats the foot of the "American" waterfall. It is clogged with rock fragments of various sizes, all this is the result of a massive landslide in 1954.

5. When people talk about survivors of the fall into Niagara, they mean the Horseshoe. "American" and "Veil" (to the right in the frame and behind it) are not so full-flowing, and falling on these rocky suitcases is a dubious pleasure.

7. The ship moves on and enters the range of the Horseshoe. Its width is almost eight hundred meters. In reality, this is a brutalized wall of water, roaring and furious, raising tons of spray into the air. Well, seagulls, without counting. I wonder what they eat here? Not a single fish in their right mind will swim a kilometer to this threshing machine ...

8. With every gust of wind, a squall of water engulfs the deck. This is delight and sweet horror at the same time.

11. In the evening, the waterfalls are illuminated. Interestingly, Niagara itself is a wide stream, but rather shallow. It's only here that she's going to the point of impact. Do you also want to jump there?
