But in Japan, this is definitely all right. When performing plumbing work at the hospital of the Medical Faculty of Osaka University, it was discovered that the builders had mixed up the water pipes in 1993. Because of this, the clinic staff and its patients have been drinking technical water intended for toilet bowls for 28 years.
The error was noticed when connecting to the water supply system of the new hospital building erected this summer. It turned out that the drinking water supply system was supplied with industrial water from underground wells, however, treated. Drinking water, on the contrary, went into the toilet tanks.
The mistake when connecting the technical and drinking mains was made 28 years ago by builders. It is noteworthy that according to the legislation, since 2014, drinking water in the institution has been regularly checked for quality. Not a single check revealed the slightest violations.
It seems that a full Japanese happy end has come. The pipes have been swapped and now the water is flowing where it should. But it was not there. The hospital administration will not calm down in any way and continues to lament the accidental embarrassment. The story of the water, provided with apologies from doctors, appeared in all major publications of the country. The following post appeared on the website of the medical institution:
The statement does not say what "significant inconveniences" are in question. Obviously, Japanese aesculapians have not been to our hospitals and have not tried the water there. On the Internet, the story of the water was perceived very positively. Many residents of the Land of the Rising Sun thank employees of water companies in their publications. They are proud that toilet water is as thoroughly cleaned as drinking water. Yes, Japanese hospitals have not only excellent water, but also excellent nutrition!
