Ice Cream Killer: The creepy story of a woman who dreamed of becoming a mother

Estibaliz Carranza is one of the most cold—blooded serial female killers known to date. She was given the nickname "ice cream killer". Despite her comely appearance, Karranza killed with calculation and thoughtfulness. And she was guided by only one aspiration — Carranza dreamed of becoming a mother.

Estibaliz Karranza was the owner of a small ice cream shop in Austria. She was a pretty young woman, and surely the children loved to feast on vanilla cones. Karranza's business was booming, but it was not easy with life partners.

The first victim of Estibaliz was her ex-husband Holger Holtz in 2008. And two years later, she killed her boyfriend. Estibaliz shot both men in the head from the back and dismembered the bodies with a chain saw. At the trial, Carranza said that her ex-husband was "lazy and aggressive," and when they quarreled, refused to leave their house.

She dismembered both bodies and hid them in the basement of her ice cream shop. And the ice cream makers working loudly hid the roar of the saw. Karranzi hid the corpses in small freezers and containers filled with concrete. And to avoid the smell, she placed a lot of air fresheners around.

For three years she managed to hide her crime until workers accidentally stumbled upon the remains of Holtz and Hinterberger. Carranza did not wait for the arrest, took a taxi and fled to Italy, to a town 300 miles from her native Vienna. As a result, the police found Karranza — she lived with a street musician and, apparently, was head over heels in love. And pregnant—she found out right on the day of her arrest.

Carranza confessed to both murders. In her memoirs, she wrote that men were "monsters who turned me into a beast." The forensic psychiatrist stated that Karranza has serious mental disorders, she has a serious personality disorder, she is dangerous and, without a doubt, will kill again. But Estibaliz herself considered herself a "princess" who should be saved by a handsome prince.

Carranza was found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment. She gave birth to a boy in 2012 in a psychiatric hospital. Custody of the child was obtained first by Karranza's parents, and then by her boyfriend.

And two months after the birth of the baby, Karranza married the father of her child. According to Estibaliz, her new husband is "very soft, the exact opposite of macho, he would never put me in a similar situation."Karranza has now been transferred to a men's prison in Austria: The authorities decided that Estibaliz was too dangerous for a women's prison. In 2017, Estibaliz was taken to a place of detention, where 91 men are being held besides her.

Carranza herself claims that she pursued only one goal — she wanted to have children, nothing else bothered her. When her ex-husband stopped having sex with her and began to speak insultingly about her appearance, all she thought about was: "How is it, how am I going to get pregnant?"

Together with journalist Martina Prevein, Carranza wrote a memoir while she was in prison. The book is called "My Two Lives: the true story of the lady with ice cream" and it begins from the moment when Estibaliz found out that she was pregnant, the rest of the narrative is built in the form of flashbacks.

Carranza was not paid royalties for the book out of respect for the relatives of the victims.
