I will look at you

By Pictolic https://pictolic.com/article/i-will-look-at-you.htmlFrench photographer Olivier Kuhlmann traveled around the world for four years filming people watching TV. At first glance, the idea seems extremely straightforward - there are no twisted plots or complex concepts here. People just watch TV. But the trick is that these photos are able to tell more than you expect from them. Here is the abyss between the "golden billion" and the third world, and the cultural and everyday characteristics of the inhabitants of different parts of the Earth, and different hobbies, characters, destinies. A photo of a well-fed American sitting on a leather couch in an apartment with cream walls sits side by side with a photo of a Palestinian woman. The walls of her dwelling have been torn down. Father and son, both informal. They watch a movie in an embrace, behind their backs a surreal picture in the whole wall. And behind the back of a lonely ugly woman are piles of books. Probably, in the evenings she is saved by them from loneliness. Well, TV, of course.
It seems that the box is the only thing that can unite these people at all. With a total difference in income, culture, age, they watch TV the same way. Concentrated, spellbound, as if under hypnosis. This is how cats stare into the void. In general, TV is also emptiness. Only for people.
