How to Make a Simple mosquito Trap that Kills Insects with 98 Percent Efficiency
Categories: Life hacks
PictolicSummer has finally arrived, we are still waiting for the heat, and the mosquitoes are already here. Of course, it is unlikely that we will have the same invasion of insects as the residents of the Voronezh region, but it is still worth preparing.
We have found a cheap and simple device for you that you can make with your own hands. The principle of its operation is used on American military bases in malarial zones with fantastic results. There are many options for Ovitrap, some are easier, and others require the use of poison.
This mosquito trap is simple and extremely effective-it kills an entire generation of mosquitoes even before they have the opportunity to bite. After six weeks of use, up to 98 percent of insects die.

How it works
This mosquito trap is like honey for flies. They are everywhere looking for standing water in a dark place to lay eggs. During their short life span, they make up to ten clutches in different places. Mosquitoes live for blood, which they then turn into eggs. As soon as they get it, they are even faster looking for water.
As soon as the mosquitoes lay their eggs, the larvae hatch, which crawl through the screen into the water and there turn into live mosquitoes that are too big to fly back through the screen. For a while, you will not notice anything and it will seem that nothing is happening in the trap, but this process may take a week or two. So keep pouring water into the trap, and after six weeks it will be full of dead mosquitoes.
On an area of four thousand square meters, 4-6 such traps will be needed. As soon as you see that the trap is full, take out the screen, pour out the dead insects and top up the water.
Step One: what you will need
1. Ordinary plastic container, the bigger the better. Black is better, if not, then you can paint over or darken it later.
2. Black socks.
3. Silicone-based glue.
4. Metal mesh or screen.
5. Wire.
Tools: drill, wire cutters, scissors and chalk.
Step two: Drill two holes in the container at the top to insert the wire later. Just below, drill holes with a diameter of 6 millimeters so that the water does not reach the metal mesh.
Step three: Glue the black sock to the container.
Apply glue to the bottom and then press the end of the sock. While the glue dries, take care of the screen.
Step four: Place the container on a metal grid, draw a circle with chalk and cut out screens for future traps.
Step five: Cut pieces of wire to hang traps on them. Usually half a meter of length is enough.
Step Six: as soon as the glue dries, pull the sock around the circumference of the container to the very end.
Step seven: Carefully insert the metal mesh into the container and press slightly so that the screen is above the drilled holes at the bottom. The mosquito larvae will crawl through the net to the water, hatch and become too big to fly out. If the water level is higher than the screen, the trap will not work.
Step eight: Insert the cut wire into the holes at the very top and bend it from the inside.
Step nine: Collect a bucket of water in the pond. Mosquitoes like standing water, so fresh water will not work, it should be smelly.
Dip all the traps in a bucket to fill them with water. Excess water will flow out through the drilled holes. You can add a couple of pieces of dry dog food so that the water remains stagnant even after heavy rain.
Step ten: Hang up the traps and start killing mosquitoes. It is better to hang it away from the sun and wind — on trees or bushes. Rainwater will replenish the trap, which will work until it is filled with dead mosquitoes.
