The film adaptation of Arkady Gaidar's work "The Tale of a Military Secret, about a Kibalchish Boy and his Firm Word" was a great success among children and teenagers, and the main character, the heroic Malchish, was an example to follow. Today we will tell you about the fate of the performer of the main role.
There were two key figures in Gaidar's fairy tale — a positive Boyish kibalchish and his antagonist, a bad Boy. The role of the negative hero was played by a young actor Sergei Tikhonov. He was given a short life and a tragic end by fate. Sergey got into bad company after the army, started betting on the racetrack and got into debt. In 1972, he died after being hit by a trolleybus. According to one version, the guy was pushed under the wheels.
But the fate of the actor who played the Kibalchish Boy turned out to be very interesting. Sergey Ostapenko was born in Kiev and started his career in cinema at the age of 6. The first film was also shot based on the patriotic story of A. Gaidar and was called "Military Secret". After the role of Malchish, Sergey no longer acted and devoted himself entirely to his studies.
Ostapenko graduated with a red diploma from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT). After that, he studied science and defended his doctoral dissertation on ultrasound. In the early 70s, Sergey got married and had a son and daughter. Ostapenko was considered one of the best specialists in the country in the field of ultrasonic waves and was the author of many interesting developments.
But as often happens, the motherland did not appreciate the scientist. In the 90s, spending on science in Russia was minimized and many world-renowned luminaries were forced to trade in the markets. Lack of money, and most importantly, the lack of prospects, forced Sergei Ostapenko to accept an offer from the United States. The physicist was invited to work at the University of South Florida. The scientist hesitated for a short time and decided to leave Russia with his family in 1993.
Ostapenko's life and career were more than successful overseas. He defended his doctorate in the USA and opened his own company. Now Sergey Semenovich's company produces scientific ultrasound equipment, which he invented himself. Ostapenko has patented many developments that are highly appreciated all over the world.
The company, whose founder and president was the former Malchish, is now called Ultrasonic Technologies. Sergey Semenovich Ostapenko is a very wealthy and respected person. He lives and works in sunny Florida, in the city of Tampa and, apparently, does not regret his choice.
In 2014, Sergei Ostapenko appeared on the screen again. However, this time not in a patriotic fairy tale, but in a documentary. The scientist was invited to star in the investigative film by Russian journalist Konstantin Semin "The Biochemistry of Betrayal".
