A photo of a girl named Zoe Roth went viral on social media, and Zoe herself became famous as a " Disaster Girl." Her family converted the image to NFT format and sold it for 180 Ethereum ($430,000).

In the original photo, Zoe was standing in front of a house in her neighborhood that was being burned down to make way for construction.

As Zoe explained in a conversation with The New York Times, selling the original photo for her was a way to control the meme, the source of which she unwittingly became. At the same time, the girl added that she is not against the created memes.

Zoe and her father will receive a 10 percent commission on each sale of the image. It is reported that before the auction, Zoe and her father carefully studied this issue and, in order not to lose money, consulted in online chats with other owners of viral photos.

Zoe, who is now 21 and attends a college in North Carolina, gained worldwide fame thanks to a photo her father took in 2005.

The proceeds from the sale of the meme will be spent by the girl on charity and payment of loans taken out for college education. After completing her studies, Zoe wants to take a year off and then study international relations at university.
