American illustrator Dave Stevens is known primarily as the creator of the cult comic book Rocketeer. More than one generation of American children grew up reading magazines with the adventures of his heroes. But Stevens also worked in another direction - in the pin-up genre. Despite the fact that the artist worked at a time when the popularity of images of imposing beauties was low, he managed to achieve success in this matter. (Warning! Nudity).

Dave Stevens was born in 1955 in Lynnwood, California. But he spent his childhood and youth in Portland, Oregon. After graduating from high school, he entered the University of San Diego, where he began studying art. During his student years, Dave was frankly bored at lectures on classical painting. He was fascinated by comics, in which he considered himself an expert.

Stevens's first experience in a new genre was unusual. He was hired as an assistant to famous illustrator Russ Manning. Dave's job was to ink the master's pencil drawings. These were mainly images for the Tarzan graphic novel, the first issue of which was published in 1975.

It wasn't until 1982 that Dave Stevens was able to work as a full-time comics writer. His first brainchild, Rocketeer, became incredibly popular. At the same time, the artist carries out orders for magazines and advertising studios, and also creates illustrations in the pin-up style. The master considered the sex symbol of the 50s, Bettie Page, to be his muse. Therefore, many of the heroines of his works look like this curvy brunette.

Unfortunately, Stevens' life was short. Soon after the recognition came, the artist fell ill with leukemia. For several years he struggled with a fatal illness with varying success, but he had no chance of victory. Dave Stevens died on March 11, 2008, during his creative heyday, leaving behind a legacy of beautiful work.
