He started doing it when he was only a little older than his heroes. Using his camera in the summer of 1959, he photographed the generation of Marlon Brando and James Dean in public places - cafes, tattoo parlors, at parties - and in intimate, homely settings, reflecting the spirit of that time.
Young sixteen- and seventeen-year-old teenagers rebelled and divided the world into friends and foes. In their appearance and habits - the length of their hair, the way they smoke cigarettes or clothing - everything determined their belonging to one or another gang.
