These pictures and details of the arrest were taken from old news newspapers of the American city of New Castle and allow us to imagine the criminal everyday life of the pre-war and post-war time. Such photos are called mugshots (from the English "mug" - face). Mugshot was invented in the USA by Alan Pinkerton, the famous detective of the XIX century. Initially, the purpose of mugshots was to identify criminals when there was no other way.
