By Pictolic https://pictolic.com/article/gypsy-nomads-in-the-lens-of-a-dane.htmlIn the period from 2000 to 2006, Joaquim Eskildsen, together with the writer Chia Rinne, traveled to seven countries to learn more about the life of Gypsies and the conditions in which they have to live. At first, it was their personal interest that led them to the gypsy streets of Hevesaranos in northeastern Hungary, where they lived for 4 months in the house of an elderly gypsy woman Magda. Then they visited Romania, India and Finland, and in In Greece and Russia, they finally found the support of human rights organizations. We present to your attention their photo project dedicated to nomadic Gypsies.
"We are often asked what sparked our interest in Gypsies, but we have not been able to give a clear answer."
"We are sure of one thing — when we started this project, we could not stop."
"The more we learned about Gypsies, the more interested we became in them and the more we liked them."
Joaquim Eskildsen was born in Copenhagen in 1971.
In 1994, he moved to Finland, where he graduated from the Helsinki University of Art and Design in 1998 with a degree in photography.
Joaquim lives and works in Berlin.
