1. Tower Bridge
London, UK The drawbridge over the River Thames was opened in 1894. Its two towers, connected by a horizontal passage, have become a symbol of the city and all of England, their image is now replicated on millions of souvenirs, and now few people remember that immediately after the construction of the bridge gallery, London thieves chose for their meetings. Now inside the famous towers there are interactive displays and photographs related to the history of the bridge. It doesn't take long to walk across Tower Bridge, and the upper gallery provides some of the best photographs of the British capital.
2. Ponte Vecchio
Florence, Italy The medieval bridge spanning the narrowest point of the Arno River in Florence is the city's oldest bridge. It was built in 1345 specifically so that the Grand Duke of Tuscany, Cosimo I, could pass from Palazzo Vecchio to Palazzo Pitti. Ponte Vecchio differs from all the bridges in the world in that houses are built on both sides of it. First, from the 16th century, many shops appeared there, which later turned into jewelry workshops, for which the bridge was even called “golden”.
3. Charles Bridge
Prague, Czech Republic One of the most beautiful bridges in the world spans the Vltava River. It connects two historical districts of the Czech capital - the Old Town and Lesser Town. Its construction began in 1357 during the reign of Charles IV. Today it is decorated with 30 sculptures, including the patron saint of the St. Vitt bridge, John of Nepomuk (by the way, touching his image promises happiness) and, of course, Charles IV himself.
4. Brooklyn Bridge
New York, USA One of the oldest suspension bridges in the United States, it connects Manhattan Island and the East River area, allowing pedestrians to enjoy spectacular views of New York's skyscrapers. It has become both a symbol of this city and a historical monument. Residents of New York have repeatedly had to leave the famous island in the center of the Big Apple on foot, for example during power outages in 1965, 1977 and 2003, as well as after the attack on the World Trade Center buildings on September 11, 2001.
5. Golden Gate Bridge. San Francisco, USA
The giant suspension bridge "Golden Gate" ("Golden Gate") across the strait, which opens access to the Pacific Ocean, has been declared one of the wonders of the modern world. It connects the city of San Francisco with Marin County. Its length exceeds 2700 meters, so a leisurely walk will take you an impressive amount of time. Therefore, cycling across the bridge is very popular. Pedestrians and cyclists can cross the bridge for free, but if you decide to cross it by car, you will have to pay $6. This bridge, which has become one of the symbols of not only San Francisco, but also America, is also known as the most photographed in the world. It also gained the notorious reputation of a “suicide bridge”: people decide to commit suicide on it about once every two weeks.
6. Henderson Waves Bridge
Singapore Singapore's tallest bridge (its pillars rise 36 meters above the ground) connects Mount Faber Park with Telok Blangah Hill Park. The seven smooth curves of this bridge are like waves. You can relax inside them - there are the most comfortable chairs from which you can leisurely view the city. The Henderson Waves are especially impressive at night (from 7 pm to 2 am), when the curves, ennobled by soft yellowish light, become even more prominent.
7. Pont d'Yena
Paris, France Your Paris itinerary should definitely include the Pont d'Iena, which connects the Trocadero area and the Palais de Chaillot (home to the Anthropological Museum, the Naval Museum and the French Cinematheque) with the left bank of the Seine, the Champs de Mars, and takes you to the foot of the Eiffel Tower . The bridge was built on the orders of Napoleon in honor of his Prussian victories and, perhaps, in itself is not as beautiful as some of the other Parisian bridges richly decorated with gilding and sculptures, but you need to walk along it for the best views of the "iron lady".
8. Jacques Cartier Bridge
Montreal, Canada The Jacques Cartier Bridge spans the Saint Lawrence River to Saint Helena. It is worth walking along it not so much for the sake of admiring its architecture, but for the magnificent views of Montreal. The best times for these hiking trips are during the summer, when the fireworks competition is off-road (usually from mid-June to mid-August), or in September during the Montreal Oasis Marathon.
9. Bridge Harbor Bridge. Sydney, Australia
If you choose to walk across this bridge, you will have several options. You can simply walk across it and take in the views of Sydney Harbor and the Sydney Opera House. You can also climb the bridge piers like industrial climbers. For such an exciting journey, you will be attached to a special safety steel cable and provided with special protective clothing that will save you from bad weather and other troubles. Your path will start from the eastern side, from where, having overcome all the peaks, you will descend to the western.
