"I became a fashion model because I wanted to see how the photographers I admired work," Bruce later said. And there was really something to see - suffice it to say that it was shot by Richard Avedon himself. Having gained experience, Weber began to photograph himself, but his path to the photographic Olympus was not always strewn with roses — he had to push his elbows pretty hard.
Critics wrote about his masterpiece works: "God created Adam, but only Bruce Weber gave him a body."
It should be noted that delightful portraits of women are also a significant part of Bruce Weber's portfolio, among them the famous Pirelli photo calendars of 1998 and 2003 occupy a special place.
"No one liked my photos, no one could understand why I take pictures of men," he recalled. The first person to recognize him as a talented photographer was photographer Diana Arbus: "I met Diana when I was being chased by a lot of trouble… And she was one of the few people who liked my photos. She advised me to take a course in photography by Lisette Model."
The legendary photographer created a series of photos of famous people.
Brad Pitt in 1992.
James Franco.
Heath Ledger.
Marion Cotillard.
Natalia Vodianova.
Madonna.
Actor Michael Fassbender.
Sean Penn.
Pamela Anderson.
Robert Pattinson.
Bruce Weber has made a huge contribution to fashion photography. He has never been involved in social photo projects, but his works are not static, they are full of dynamics and naturalness, which are so lacking in photographs in modern glossy magazines.
It is difficult not to notice the maestro's special attitude to the stronger sex: the women in his pictures look natural, they are beautiful and sexy, while men are always surrounded by an aura of mystery, a certain detachment and even sublimity.
A shot from a photo shoot that led Bruce Weber to his first big success: in 1983, he took photos to advertise Calvin Klein men's underwear. According to American critics, this advertisement remains to this day the best underwear photo advertisement in the world.
