Gerard Ransinan is one of the most famous French photographers. He was born in 1953 in the small town of Talence in the Bordeaux region. Gerard began studying photography when he was 15 years old, enrolling as an apprentice in the photo lab of one of the Bordeaux daily newspapers. At 18, Ransinan had already landed a job as a photojournalist and was doing stories for several news outlets.

Real fame came to the young photographer at the age of 21, when he worked for the Parisian press agency Sygma. This work required constant travel to hot spots. Ransinan filmed for the agency the Algerian earthquake, the war in Lebanon, the riots in the UK, the Olympic Games, the world championships in football and athletics. At the same time, he began to create his own photographic portraits of show business stars, famous athletes, scientists and statesmen.
