If the crime is committed spontaneously, by a serial killer or a psychopath, this greatly complicates the investigation. Some bloody atrocities, committed for no apparent reason, remain unsolved. Such was the case with a gang murder in Caddy, a resort town in Northern California, where on April 11, 1981, four people were killed by unknown persons.
Events unfolded at the Caddy Resort holiday camp in guest house number 28. The victims of the brutal murder were 36-year-old Glenna Sharp, nicknamed Sue, her 12-year-old daughter Tina, 15-year-old son John, his 17-year-old friend Dane Wingate. Miraculously, Sue's 14-year-old daughter Sheila, 3-year-old son Gregory and 8-year-old Rick escaped death.
The evening of April 11 was unremarkable. The Sharpe family members had supper and started to get ready for bed. Sheila asked her mother for permission to spend the night at the nearby guest house number 27. The family of James Seabolt, the commandant of the Caddy Resort, lived there, with whose daughter the girl became friends.
On the morning of April 12, Sheila returned to her family's room and saw a terrible picture there. Her mother Sue, brother John and his friend Dane lay in pools of blood on the floor at different ends of the room. They were dead - their bodies were cut and punctured, and their hands and feet were tied with tape. The interior of the room looked like the Manson family was inside. Everything was spattered with blood, broken and stabbed with knives. Even furniture and walls were cut with strong blows of knives or cleavers.
The unknown spared two younger children, but they were in a state of shock from horror. The room was missing 12-year-old Tina. The kids said that late in the evening two strangers with large knives broke into the house. They tied up the mother, John and Dane and began to brutally torture them.
They used knives and hammers, inflicting serious but not fatal injuries on their victims. At the same time, they tortured the unfortunate for the sake of pleasure, without making any demands. The bloody bacchanalia lasted 10 hours, after which the maniacs slaughtered three elders, and took Tina with them.
The police and FBI agents arrived at the scene of a terrible crime. Investigators found a lot of strange facts in this case. The most surprising thing was that the neighboring house of the Sibert family, where Sheila spent the night, was only 5 meters away. The walls of the wooden guest houses were thin, but the neighbors did not hear a sound at night. Also, no one saw how the killers came to the Caddy Resort and how they left, kidnapping the child.
The gang murder was investigated by the best police experts and experienced feds. But not a single clue could be found. Also failed to find the kidnapped Tina. She was listed as missing until 1984, when her skull was found at another tourist camp. The distance between Caddy Resort and the place of the terrible discovery was more than 80 km.
The massacre of members of the Sharp family destroyed the reputation of the Caddy Resort camp. There were fewer and fewer people wishing to relax in this terrible place every year. It was rumored that choked screams and groans were heard from Guest House 28 at night, and shadows flickered in the windows.
Over time, the camp fell into disrepair. Vagrants and illegal migrants spent the night on its territory. In 2004, the owner of the camp demolished the house where the murder took place, but this could not save the business and now the territory of the once prosperous recreation center is empty.
