By Pictolic https://pictolic.com/article/funny-street-photos-by-nils-jorgensen.htmlThe most important thing in street photography is to be observant and a bit roguish. This is the opinion of Nils Jorgensen, a photojournalist who has become famous for his interesting street photographs, which have received many prestigious awards. We have chosen for you the most original, in our opinion, works by Jorgensen, which, we guarantee, will make you smile.
Although Nils Jorgensen works as a photojournalist in the British press, in his homeland he is considered an eccentric and creative master of street photography.
Nils began to be interested in photography as a child. His father was an amateur photographer and shared all his knowledge with his son. While still at school, Nils "dragged himself through the streets" during recess and photographed everything possible, without any plan. This was, according to the photographer, the beginning of his "adventures with street photography."
After graduating from high school, Nils Jorgensen enrolled in West Surrey College of Art and Design, but dropped out after a while. "Despite this, I learned a lot then. The classes in the dark room and the library were fantastic, I borrowed as many books about photography from the library as possible."
An important moment in the life of Niels Jorgensen was the day when he came to the Associated Press office in London and convinced the legendary German photojournalist Horst Faas — winner of two Pulitzer Prizes — to hire him as a photojournalist to cover events in East Africa.
"I don't live with street photography and I wouldn't even be able to earn money from it," the photographer explains. "I'm only concerned about the opportunity to take photos in accordance with my own ideas, and the work of a photojournalist allows me to finance this bad habit that I'm obsessed with."
"In street photography, you need to be a dodger," says Nils Jorgensen and adds that "most interesting photos are a matter of luck, but this happiness can also be earned."
"When creating a composition, I follow my feelings and try to find that one good moment."
"Everything is in constant motion until the moment you make a click, and then everything freezes, and that's the only way you can control it. The only thing you can do is take a picture at the right moment. This is what is most important to me in street photography, otherwise I would have become a studio photographer."
According to the photographer, street photography is an extremely fascinating and interesting activity, but many people do not have the courage to start photographing strangers, as they are afraid that they will be accused of violating privacy.
Nils was detained many times by the police for shooting people on the street, but he was always released, because in England, in order to photograph a person in a public place, you do not need to have his permission.
"If you want to do street photography, then you should have eyes on the back of your head, because you never know when you will see something interesting," the photographer advises.
"A matter of chance? There is no such thing for me," says Nils Jorgensen. — Wherever I go, I always check whether I have brought my camera with me, and when I see something interesting, I concentrate only on that, the rest of the world ceases to exist for me."
