The bear Katerina has been serving a life sentence in a high-security colony for 15 years among 730 murderers and repeat offenders. The animal was sentenced to life behind bars for two attacks on tourists.
Read on the unusual story of the criminal Katerina and find out how the bear lives in the colony side by side with other prisoners. The bear is serving a life sentence in a human prison for causing bodily harm. The animal is located next to 730 dangerous criminals in a high-security colony in Kazakhstan.
Katerina was found guilty of two attacks on tourists in a tent camp in 2004. The animal wandered around the neighborhood after being abandoned by a circus trainer. Then the wild beast was still a bear cub. An 11-year-old boy who wanted to feed her and a 28-year-old drunk man who tried to shake hands with the animal suffered from the paws of the bear.To prevent the attacks from happening again, the local authorities decided to put the bear in prison, since there is no zoo in the region that could accept an animal older than seven years.
Katerina is the only one among the prisoners who has her own swimming pool. The head of the colony, Aslan Medibayev, says that she is friendly and not aggressive at all. Other prisoners are happy to visit her.
Life behind bars is not sugar for both people and animals. Unfortunately, Katerina's freedom no longer shines, but I am glad that she is treated with respect and well cared for. Maybe communication with this cute bear will help to soften the hearts of hardened criminals at least a little.
