In the house of the Pereira family from Spain, strange faces have been appearing on the concrete floor for forty years. Residents have tried all the ways to remove them, but without success. Scientists have not found an explanation for this phenomenon. Portraits appear and disappear by themselves. The anomaly has caused the emergence of many theories, but it has not yet been possible to find the only correct one among them. All the studies conducted have led to the conclusion that the images are not man-made.

Mystical faces have been appearing on the floor of the house of the Pereira family from the city of Belmes since 1971. There are a lot of rumors about them, there are even whole conspiracy theories. Portraits on the floor periodically arise to this day.

The poltergeist was called "The Faces of Belmes". Family members claim that strange images appear and disappear, and it is impossible to wash them away. The faces on the floor inexplicably change from male to female, acquire different shapes, sizes and take on different expressions. The anomaly was investigated by scientists, but they could not explain it scientifically.

It all started in 1971, when Maria Gomez Camara (María Gómez Cámara) — the former owner of the house — saw a face on the floor. She told her husband Juan Pereira about it. The man and his son smashed the new floor covering with an axe to get rid of the strange image. But soon the face appeared again, acquiring other features.

The news about the poltergeist quickly spread throughout the small town. The mayor of the city forbade the owners to destroy the images in order to save them for scientific research. Soon the gloomy portraits became a local tourist attraction. The story became known throughout Spain, and on Easter 1972, the House of Faces (La Casa de las Caras) was visited by hundreds of people.

Gradually, various theories about their appearance began to emerge around the strange images. The most far-fetched version was the murder that took place here in the 17th century. The anomaly was also associated with the fact that the house is located near the old cemetery.

Some even believed that the appearance of the mysterious portraits was caused by the witchcraft of the late mistress of the house, Maria. They say that the faces changed expressions and color depending on her mood.

Cynics suggest that the "Faces of Belmes" is a deception by which the Pereira family earns money from tourists visiting their home. Careful studies of the flooring in the house continued until Maria's death in 2004.

But creepy faces continued to appear after the death of the hostess of the house. In 2014, the creators of the Spanish show "Cuarto Milenio" investigated the images to finally find out the truth. Experts came to the conclusion that the portraits were not painted and were not subjected to outside interference.

Scientists tried to recreate the outlines using solvents, hydrochloric acid and silver nitrate, but all their attempts failed. It was not possible to explain the anomaly from a scientific point of view. The poltergeist from Belmes still remains a mystery.
