7. Turning Goku Into A Child
Now Everyone Else Is A Kid Too

Just glancing at a trailer for Dragon Ball Daima shows the biggest element taken straight from Dragon Ball GT: Goku gets turned into a child. This also happens due to a wish to the Dragon Balls, but the wish targets not only Goku, but all his friends as well.

In both shows, the aim is to go back to the old adventure tone of the show, back when Goku was just a child, and we didn’t know he was an alien. One thing Daima does differently is that Goku doesn’t seem to have lost any power, particularly when he transforms into Super Saiyan 3.

6. Having A Space Adventure In A Small Ship
Replace Planets With Demon Realms

The set-up for the adventure in both Daima and GT is nearly identical: collect a new set of Dragon Balls in alien worlds to revert a wish and save the Earth. Granted, in Daima, the Earth isn’t in peril yet, but King Gomah can easily set his sights on that planet should he remain free.

Goku’s wild antics and his lack of subtlety shine in both shows, where there is plenty of fighting, but it isn’t always the focus. This all makes the story structure feel oddly similar to Dragon Ball GT, at least the first arc, which isn’t so focused on constant duels with villains like Z and Super are.

5. Panzy As A Parallel Of Pan
They Are Basically Called The Same

Both Pan and Panzy serve similar roles in their respective shows, being themselves children that at times need to be more mature than Goku to solve a given problem. Pan had a robot companion that aided the group technologically, while Panzy is a technological genius that is constantly repairing the many machines they use to get around.

Panzy’s name being so similar to Pan’s makes us believe that it has to be a direct reference. In the long run, the relationship between these characters and Goku can’t be the same, but their role in the story is a very similar one indeed.

4. King Gomah As A Parallel Of Emperor Pilaf
A Call Back To Goku’s First Notable Enemy

While Goku has faced many rulers and monarchs, the similarities between Gomah and Pilaf are uncanny. They both are responsible for the wish that turns Goku into a child, they are very childish themselves, and they are incredibly incompetent at being villains.

Towards the end of Daima, Gomah becomes more menacing than Pilaf ever was, but this too seems like a nod, not to Pilaf, but to Baby. Baby was the first proper villain of Dragon Ball GT, who also started child-like but ended up being the monster that pushes Goku into a new transformation.

3. The Gendarmerie Force As The Obligatory Posing Characters
Dragon Ball GT Had The Para Brothers

Dragon Ball has a history of characters that dance and pose in outlandish ways, with the most iconic group of them all being the Ginyu Force. They were a force to be reckoned with at the time, and even Dragon Ball Super has had posing and dancing characters in both the Tournament of Power arc and in the Super Hero movie.

Now then, the dancing groups in both GT and Daima are very similar, particularly in their lack of power when compared to Goku. In Dragon Ball GT, the Para Brothers use hypnotic dances to trick opponents they can’t beat, and in Daima, the Gendarmerie Force use poses to taunt their enemies into a false sense of dread.

2. The Red Colored Dragon

Dragon Ball has had many variants of the titular Dragon Balls, with each summoning their own version of the wish-granting dragon. The one summoned by the Earth’s Dragon Balls (Shenron) looks like a traditional Chinese dragon, while the one summoned by the Namekian Dragon Balls (Porunga) looks more like a human-lizard hybrid with a snake’s bottom, almost resembling a scaly djinn.

These designs are relevant because, in Dragon Ball GT, the Black Star Dragon Balls that turn Goku into a child summon Ultimate Shenron, a dragon that looks just like Shenron but with red scales and golden horns. Similarly, the Demon Realm Dragon Balls summon a red version of Porunga, a clear nod to the previously mentioned Ultimate Shenron.

As a child-looking Goku faces off against his latest enemy, his trusty Super Saiyan 3 form just isn’t enough. Then, thanks to a power-up that seems closer to a ritual than something gained through training, Goku ascends to the Super Saiyan 4 level, with red fur covering his body and new clothes reminiscent of the fusion technique.

This event happens in both Dragon Ball GT and Dragon Ball Daima, with the latter making a clear reference to the former. The main difference is that Daima Goku keeps his child-like body, but beyond that, the form is the next step for Goku to master.
