Color photos of popular tourist destinations, taken more than 100 years ago

These lovely photos show looked like the main tourist places of the world at a time when colour photography was just starting to develop.

The images were created based on the black-and-white negatives using one of the first techniques of painting shots, invented in the 1880s by the Swiss chemist Hans Jakob Schmidt. Made in an era when colour photography was still not widespread, these photos shed light on what looked like the streets of Naples, Marble boat in Summer Palace Beijing, the Red square and other popular places where tourists in the late nineteenth century.
