In this difficult situation, Fatima Hossaini, a photographer, artist, gallery owner and fighter for women's rights, is at the forefront of the fight against oppression and injustice.
Fatima Hossaini is the most famous artist in Afghanistan. In a country where it is dangerous for life to create something bright and original, she has been bravely creating and exhibiting her works to the public for many years. Thanks to Fatima, the whole world learned about the life of Afghan women and the real state of affairs was a shock for many.
Hossaini can rightly be considered one of the most enlightened women in the country. She was born into an Afghan family in Tehran, Iran and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Photography from the University of Tehran. In addition, Fatima has a diploma of an engineer in the field of industrial and civil construction.
Not wanting to live far from the historical homeland. Hossaini moved to Afghanistan and settled in Kabul. She taught at the Faculty of Arts at Kabul University in 2018-2019 and traveled all over the country with lectures on painting, sculpture and photography. As a public figure, Fatima paid most attention to women and refugees, whose rights were, in one way or another, infringed upon by any government.
Hossainni's favorite brainchild is the Mastooraat Organization, a public organization that protects the rights of the female population of Central Asian countries. Fatima has been its permanent president and chief ideologist for several years. As an artist, she has also achieved considerable success – exhibitions of her photographs and paintings have been held in Iran, Afghanistan, India, Turkey, China, Japan, South Korea, Austria, Denmark, Italy, Albania, France and the United States.
Hossaini's social, often harsh and always very truthful images of the lives of women in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iran have been published in such publications as the BBC, the Guardian, Aljazeera, Bloomberg, Business Insider, Outriders, Le Figaro Magazine and many others.
But in one of her most interesting projects, Fatima Hossaini shows not hopelessness and sadness. This collection depicts a woman who deliberately breaks the taboo, comes out of the shadow that has always hidden her, and lives as she wants. She freely drives around the streets behind the wheel, decorates herself and feels her strength. In a society where a woman is prevented from freely demonstrating her beauty, femininity itself is a wonderful challenge.
Women were and still are the main characters of the works of the first Afghan graffiti artist Shamsia Hassani, who is not afraid to create even under the threat of death.
