His paintings are imbued with subtle irony and expose the vices of modern society. Stupidity, greed, lust, vanity — the imperfection of the human essence is skillfully brought out by the master in everyday and biblical scenes.(Careful! Nude).
Dario Ortiz Robledo was born on September 12, 1968 in Ibaga, Colombia. Dario started drawing in elementary school, and by the end of school he was already masterful in oil and watercolor. It is noteworthy that the artist independently studied the wisdom of painting, since there is not even an art school behind him.
In 1986, Dario graduated from college and entered the Jorge Tadeo Lozano University in Bogota. He chose the Faculty of History for himself. By this time, Robledo was already a fully formed painter, with his own recognizable style.
After receiving his bachelor's degree, Dario becomes a journalist. He collaborates with the newspapers "Ibaque" and "El Nuevo Dia", and in his spare time continues to create.
It was only in the early 2000s that the artist left his job in the press and completely focused on art. Dario Ortiz Robledo is known in Colombia not only as an artist. He has written several books on the art and life of famous Latin American painters.
As for the works of the artist himself, they are interesting even to people far from art. First of all, the skill of the author, who portrays his characters with photographic accuracy, is striking. No less attractive is the subtle humor in Robledo's works. The author wittily ridicules the shortcomings of this world, not forgetting to make fun of himself.
On many canvases, the author portrays himself, at different ages and in different images. The artist then shows himself surrounded by naked girls, then puts a bishop in a cassock and puts at the head of a procession of sinners and demons. But most often Dario can be seen in paintings at work, at the easel, among the models.
The theme of religion occupies a significant role in the work of the Colombian artist. Dario, living and working in devout Catholic Colombia, is not afraid to freely interpret biblical stories and mock obscurantism and hypocrisy.
Now Dario Ortiz Robledo continues to live and work in his native Ibaga. Since 2003, the artist has headed the Museum de Arte del Tolima created by him. Its exposition presents the works of contemporary Colombian painters, graphic artists and sculptors.
British artist Mitch Griffiths works in a very similar style. He also took on the difficult mission of fighting human vices.
