A mother and two children from Venezuela found themselves in the open sea after a boat crash. For four days, the woman drank her own urine, and breastfed the children, and then died of dehydration.
During a boat trip, their boat crashed. A woman with babies and a nanny drifted in a dinghy under the scorching sun for four days until they were discovered by rescuers. The children and the nanny survived, and the mother died, not having lived only a few hours before the rescue.
40-year-old Mariely Chacon (Mariely Chacon) sacrificed her life for the sake of her six-year-old son and two-year-old daughter. She saved them from dehydration after the boat crash, so that they had a chance to survive. The children were found alive: they were holding on to a dead mother and a 25-year-old nanny.
The family went on a sea trip from Higuerote in Venezuela to the deserted Caribbean island of La Tortuga on the north coast. They set sail on September 3, but never reached their destination. Rescuers managed to find three survivors on a makeshift lifeboat and send them to the hospital. The nanny was hiding in a small refrigerator, trying to hide from the scorching sun. Five other people who were on the boat, including the father of the kids, have not yet been found.
The nanny and the children were sent to the hospital, where they were treated for dehydration and first-degree burns. The mother died from organ failure due to dehydration, but saved the children's lives. All this time, she drank her own urine and breastfed her son and daughter.
Marilee's funeral was broadcast on YouTube so that her family and friends could say goodbye to her online, despite the restrictions associated with covid. The woman died just 3-4 hours before the rescuers found those in distress.
The search for the rest of the family members continues, but the hope that they survived is fading every day. Rescuers say that if the boat had been equipped with a GPS navigation system or other safety equipment, for example, warning lights, the chances of rescue would have been much higher.
The story of a woman who drifted across the Pacific Ocean for 41 days on the wreckage of a yacht and survived no matter what, has become a Hollywood blockbuster. However, the reality turned out to be much scarier than what was shown in the movies.
