Such anomalies occur under certain weather conditions, when the density and humidity of snow, wind strength and gravity are optimally combined.
Unusual snow rolls were discovered in his field by a resident of Wiltshire county, forester Brian Bayliss (Brian Bayliss). There were only 6 of them and the man thought it was someone's prank. But then, after examining the snow formations and the place around them, the man was surprised to find that there were no traces on the surface of the snow, which would inevitably appear if people rolled the rolls.
To get a snow roll, it is necessary that the snow lay down in a thick layer on the ice crust, but did not stick to it. Also, the snow should certainly be loose, and the air temperature is slightly above zero. You also need a wind strong enough to move the roll, but not a hurricane, so as not to destroy it.
Meteorologist Ian Fergusson, who works for the BBC, claims that all the conditions necessary for the formation of snow rolls occur at the same time extremely rarely. Most often, such an interesting phenomenon can be observed on gentle slopes and ice-covered reservoirs.
In winter, this natural phenomenon was observed not only in the UK, but also in Iceland. There, rolls of snow, similar to large bales of hay, appeared on the golf course at one of the sports clubs.
