In this collection you will find archival photographs that, like a time machine, will take you to different eras and events, reviving the pages of history. Let these photographs tell you about the life and people of that time.
This photograph was taken in Rome by photographer Angelo Frontoni, during a break in the filming of the film “La costanza della ragione” (“The Persistence of Mind”), which took place in 1964.
Khrushchev did not express his attitude during the dance. At the end, he politely applauded. And then he talked cheerfully and naturally with the artists: he shook hands and thanked them.
But on the way out, when correspondents broke through to him and began to ask how he liked it all, he suddenly frowned and said that, from his point of view and from the point of view of the Soviet people, this was simply immoral. True, he added that it is in vain that good girls are forced to do bad things for the amusement of a jaded, corrupted public.
The bear, revered by the ancestor of the Ainu, is surrounded by them with special honor. Killing a bear is considered as a gift from the beast to people of its flesh, while its soul returns to the world of spirits.
In 1986, when creating the next Pirelli calendar, two projects were launched, working in parallel and ignoring each other. It was somewhat of an internal competition between the British and Italian teams.
The British version, directed by Martin Walsh and featuring American photographer Bert Stern, focused on provocative and overtly erotic imagery, including shooting models in the imaginary studios of contemporary artists, highlighting the calendar's connection to the world of cinema and celebrity.
The Italian version, for which Helmut Newton directed, featured a black-and-white aesthetic and a more traditionally statuesque presentation of female nudity, with elements of strong erotic charge and innovative street photography. Newton, however, was forced to abandon the project, and his work for the calendar was retained but not published that year. However, in 2014, the year of the 50th anniversary of the calendar, Pirelli nevertheless released this calendar, taking advantage of the fact that the dates in these two years completely coincided.
The Monsters of Rock festival took place immediately after the August 1991 coup and became a historical event for rock music and the post-Soviet space. It attracted a gigantic audience, estimated between 600,000 and 1.6 million people. Among the performers were legendary bands such as AC/DC, Metallica and Pantera. This festival became a symbol of the cultural changes taking place in Russia during that period. However, the event was marred by unrest and it was later called the “Tushino massacre.” Hundreds of thousands of spectators, lack of sufficient control and security led to chaos and conflicts among the participants.
Public organization “Down with shame!” existed in the 1920s and its participants strived for sexual freedom, thereby going to extreme measures. The ideologist of this movement was the Soviet public figure Karl Radek, who led the march of naked people on Red Square.
The most massive demonstrations took place in 1924–1925 and at least 10 thousand people took part in them. The demonstrators spoke with slogans: “destroy the feeling of shame,” “down with bourgeois prejudices,” and “become a true proletarian.”
Greeting by sticking out your tongue makes it possible to make sure that the person you meet is not a reincarnated demon. As Tibetans know, demons have green tongues, and therefore the best way to dispel doubts from your interlocutor regarding your possible demonic origin is to stick out your tongue when you meet.
In addition to paintings and drawings, Salvador Dali created sculptures, lithographs, photographs, films and theatrical scenery. He also worked on jewelry, illustrated books, created advertising posters, Christmas cards and designed furniture. Dali even created a joint project with Playboy and released a cookbook with non-children's illustrations.
