1. This miracle of nature is located on the territory of modern Libya, among the sand dunes, which are more than 100,000 years old.
2. Scientists suggest that an impressive aquatic ecosystem used to exist here, but now only about twenty small lakes remain of it.
3. The landscape created by aquamarine waters against the backdrop of high sandy mounds is truly fabulous - this is probably how weary travelers imagine a mirage in the desert.
4. Surrounded by small islands of greenery, the lakes look very picturesque, so tourists from all over the world often come here.
5. The most beautiful and, accordingly, the most visited lakes are Umm al-Maa and Gaberun. In their vicinity are tourist campsites and camps, where you will be offered the necessary equipment and assistance in exploring the lake waters.
6. The depth of the lakes ranges from seven to thirty-two meters, and the water in them is very salty: the salt content here is almost five times higher than in the sea.
7. An interesting feature of the Ubari lakes is that the water temperature at their surface is always lower than at depth.
8. Unfortunately, due to natural processes, as well as artificial drainage, some lakes are gradually drying up.
