It is impossible to keep animals in such conditions, and even more so to live by yourself.
Mountains of garbage, feces, fetid puddles, fleas jumping on all surfaces and even dead cats — that's what law enforcement officers saw when they entered the woman's house. What punishment she suffered and what awaits the rest of her pets now, this article will tell.
In the photo, only a small part of the horrors that were found in the apartment Nicola Lessimore from Wolverhampton. But it was not because of this total disorder that the woman was sentenced to 18 months in prison.
The reason was that Nikola did not live alone in a dirty, littered house. Her neighbors were 14 cats, 10 of which turned out to be sick and emaciated, and four more were found dead in the house.
It was possible to save the pets from this hell thanks to the neighbors. They saw a very thin cat in the window and turned to animal rights activists. Inspector Dawn Burrell could not talk to the hostess, but, looking through the window, noticed mountains of garbage in her house. That was enough to start an investigation.
According to the police, who came to inspect Nikola's house, they were met by a terrible stench on the threshold. The men barely restrained their vomiting when they saw what was behind the door.
After a cursory inspection of the dwelling, the cops found the corpses of four cats. Apparently, the animals were lying in the same place where they once died, surrounded by fetid puddles and faeces.
Nikola's other pets were on the verge of death — emaciated, covered with purulent wounds and bald spots. They had been suffering from dehydration for a long time, because the entrance to the only source of water — the leaky faucet in the bathroom — was blocked.
The woman "kept" 14 cats, including those four that no longer showed signs of life. As it turned out, the poor animals tried to get out of the house, but the hostess always kept them under lock and key. However, even the police with great difficulty were able to get inside, as the door was propped up by a mountain of garbage.
Now the cats are in the care of veterinarians. Some pets have already been placed in new families, others are waiting for them to fall into good hands, too.
Nicola Lessimore herself will spend 18 months in prison. She was also awarded 100 unpaid hours of community service and a fine of 415 pounds (about 35 thousand rubles).
Do you think this punishment is enough for such cruel treatment of animals?
