When it comes to horror movies, heroes are in danger of anything. It can be a supernatural force, a being from another world, or, in most cases, another person. However, when the killer is an animal, it sometimes becomes even more unsettling. More often than not, these evil animals cannot be coaxed, and they want to kill whoever they meet. This makes them the perfect horror movie monsters.

1. Dog (Kujo).
Dogs are often referred to as man's best friend, but this pup makes us rethink that relationship. Based on the Stephen King novel, Cujo follows a friendly St. Bernard who has contracted rabies and is no longer man's best friend.
2. Giant Monkey (King Kong).
King Kong remains one of the most revolutionary films of all time and features one of cinema's most famous and complex villains. Focusing on an expedition to the mysterious Skull Island, the explorers soon learn that the island is inhabited by a number of strange creatures, most notably a giant monkey king named Kong.
3. Rats (Willard).
Rats are the kind of animals that give you goosebumps. So, the idea of an army of rats ready to take orders from psychosis is what nightmares are made of. This essentially creepy story was brought to the big screen in both the 1971 film and its 2003 remake.
4. Crocodile (Crocodile).
Crocodile is an underrated and little-known Australian horror film gem. The simple story follows a group of river excursions in the outback of Australia who are stranded on a small rocky island after being attacked by a territorial crocodile.
5. Wolves (Fight).
While it was marketed as a film about Liam Neeson fighting wolves, Showdown is a far more elaborate and brutal survival story. It follows a group of plane crash survivors stranded in some sort of icy wilderness. As they desperately try to make their way to civilization, they are hunted by a pack of wolves.
6. Piranhas (Piranha 3D).
Most people thought the idea of redesigning the Piranha was pretty stupid. As it turns out, the filmmakers embraced the idea, making it one of the best modern films ever made. The result is a fun and, accordingly, frightening explosion.
7. Birds (Birds).
Alfred Hitchcock is the master of suspense. He has a unique ability to create tension in almost any situation. However, his ability to scare ordinary birds was a feat even for him. The film is set in a small seaside town where birds suddenly start attacking people.
8. Great White Shark (Jaws).
Along with creating the idea of a summer blockbuster and launching Steven Spielberg's career, Jaws also made a generation of moviegoers reconsider their next trip to the beach. The film, about a killer shark terrorizing the beach community, is considered one of the greatest films of all time, and for good reason.
