By Vika https://pictolic.com/article/5-great-detective-stories-from-the-last-10-years-worth-watching.htmlHave you noticed that high-quality detective stories rarely go to the cinema now? Everything has gone into series. Over the past 10 years, 13,292 detective films have been released in cinema. Well, you know that not all of those 13292 movies were great.
And so I decided to go through the detective genre. I've been able to pick out five detective stories that I think have come out great over the last 10 years. There will be three films that I recommend unconditionally to everyone for viewing. And for the two remaining detectives, I recommend watching only a small group of viewers (I'll explain everything later).
5 PHOTOS
1. Windy River (2016)
Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olsen in the lead roles. The film takes place on an Indian reservation in Wyoming. Hunter Corey Lambert (Renner) and inexperienced FBI agent Jane Banner (Olsen) team up to solve a terrible crime.
The film is a dark and tense detective story that explores issues of race, violence, and justice in contemporary America. The film also features stunning cinematic footage of the harsh and unforgiving Wyoming landscape that serves as the backdrop for the story. Windy River is a must-see movie that will stay with you long after the credits end.
2. Goodfellas (2016)
Set in 1970s Los Angeles, the film follows two detectives, Holland March (Gosling) and Jackson Healy (Crow), who team up to investigate the disappearance of a young woman named Amelia. As the mystery unfolds, they discover a major conspiracy, and now the lives of the detectives hang in the balance.
The film is a witty and action-packed detective story that combines elements of film noir, action, and comedy. Gosling and Crowe are excellent detective partners who bicker and play pranks on each other. With stylish visuals, sets, costumes, a poignant script, and well-executed action scenes, The Goodfellas is a fun and engaging movie.
This is where we got to two detectives, which I advise not everyone to watch. I really liked these detective stories, but I'm sure there will be a lot of people here who will just waste their time with these films.
These detectives are worth watching only for those people who like to watch something unusual sometimes. Something that doesn't feel like a typical movie. Something with a touch of arthouse. If you already thought of the word “arthouse”: “Yes, I don’t like these strange and incomprehensible films,” then it’s okay, skip the next two films, and pay attention to the last detective in this collection.
And for those who are still here, waiting for unusual detective stories, I offer two pictures.
3. Birth Defect (2014)
Directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, the film tells the story of private detective Doc Sportello, played by Joaquin Phoenix, who investigates the disappearance of his ex-girlfriend. The film is set in 1970 Los Angeles, where the hippie counterculture and the establishment clash.
The film, in addition to the detective genre, is also a dark and cynical comedy full of strange characters, bizarre situations, and intricate storylines. The film features an impressive ensemble cast that includes Josh Brolin, Owen Wilson, Reese Witherspoon, Benicio Del Toro, Martin Short, and more. The cinematography and soundtrack also deserve attention, which creates a bright and exciting atmosphere that takes the viewer to a bygone era. All in all, Inherent Vice is a complex and tense film that deserves to be watched over and over as it reveals new layers of meaning each time.
4. Beneath Silver Lake (2018)
Looks a little like the previous movie. The story tells about a young guy who once met a charming girl. They spent the evening together and agreed to meet the next day. But the next day, our romance was out of luck. The girl is gone. Generally evaporated. The guy doesn't understand what it all means. And so he decides to conduct his own investigation.
From the description, you might think that this is an ordinary detective. But it's in the details. A confusing movie that contains many different conspiracy theories. Modern film noir, similar in mood to the film "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" and the films of David Lynch.
5. Gone Girl (2014)
Let's finish the selection not with an arthouse.
David Fincher has only one weak film. And this movie isn't Gone Girl at all. Fincher has long had a hand in detectives and thrillers, so with this film, he could not miss.
And a rather flying detective came out, which smoothly flows into a thriller. The story tells about a man who lost his wife one day. The police, along with the residents of the town, begin to suspect him of this disappearance. The man tries to avoid suspicion and find his wife on his own. But soon a secret is revealed that turns everything upside down.
Both the book and the film Gone Girl made a huge contribution to the genre of detective and psychological thriller. Many detectives in recent years have tried to imitate this film, but not all have been able to come close to this quality.
