41st state: brutal farmers of Montana
Categories: North America | Photo project
By Pictolic https://pictolic.com/article/41st-state-brutal-farmers-of-montana.htmlCynthia Matty-Haber has long admired the rugged, brutal lifestyle of ranchers. She took these photos for three years, traveling all over Montana. All last year she worked with only one person. John Hoyland's family came to Montana in 1906. John has spent his entire life on a farm. When his parents died, all the chores fell on him - John became the sole owner of the farm.
Cynthia's work breaks stereotypes about the ranch as a quiet life away from the hustle and bustle. It shows how hard and tedious it is to manage a 380-hectare farm every day. But it’s impossible to quit either - after all, this land has been called home for 100 years, and there is no other homeland. However, the realism of the photographs does not kill the romance of rural life - just look at the landscapes and do not even say that you would not like to drive through these endless melancholy fields at least once.
