Her travels around the world began early — she was born in Germany in 1937 under the name Monique Graebener, was educated in England and Switzerland. Monique made her modeling debut as a teenager in Paris in the mid-50s, working with fashion designers such as Regina Relang, Georges Saad and Philippe Pottier.

Models from France have always been successful in New York, starting with Bettina Graziani and Alla Ilchun. But they have always been guest stars, coming to the New World for a while to illuminate the American landscape and return to Europe again. However, Graebener came to New York and stayed there.
