This beautiful blonde was the epitome of femininity and classic style.
Her travels around the world began early — she was born in Germany in 1937 under the name Monique Graebener, was educated in England and Switzerland. Monique made her modeling debut as a teenager in Paris in the mid-50s, working with fashion designers such as Regina Relang, Georges Saad and Philippe Pottier.
Models from France have always been successful in New York, starting with Bettina Graziani and Alla Ilchun. But they have always been guest stars, coming to the New World for a while to illuminate the American landscape and return to Europe again. However, Graebener came to New York and stayed there. The girl signed a contract with the Ford agency, changed her name to Lefebvre, and then to Chevalier and became one of the most popular models of the Big Apple.
Over the next decade, Monique continued to work on both sides of the Atlantic with Irving Penn, Karen Radkai, Richard Rutledge and many others. But perhaps she is best known for the photos she took with photographer Bert Stern, the same one who was the author of the last photo shoot of Marilyn Monroe.
