By Vika https://pictolic.com/article/2020-the-most-controversial-films.htmlFilms as a concept have been controversial in 2020. Should you go to the cinema? Should movie theaters be opened? And the film industry has been hit hard by the pandemic. However, films exist because life goes on. Many of the rated films of 2020 have been pushed back to 2021, but overall it has been a good year for films. Many interesting films have been released and, as always, there has been a lot of controversies. These were the most controversial films of 2020:

1. Cuties.
Arguably the most controversial film of 2020, Cuties caused a media buzz with its release on Netflix. The French film tells the story of the daughter of Senegalese immigrants, who is trying to find her place, growing up on the outskirts of Paris. But he has scenes where girls dance in short outfits, and many (mostly conservatives in the States) accuse him of sexualizing minors. Tags like #CancelNetflix have been trending on Twitter.
2. Mulan.
Disney had to weather the COVID storm over the debut of Mulan. The film was overshadowed by several controversies that damaged Disney's reputation. Among them are Yifei Liu's comments on Hong Kong, Li Shan's removal from the script, lack of diversity in the production team, and the producer's decision to film in Xinjiang, the site of Uyghur concentration camps.
3. Argument.
August 26 Warner Bros. with a threefold delay, the sci-fi thriller was finally released in the United Kingdom. Other countries will follow, but the Argument has failed to defeat COVID. It cost $ 361 million worldwide, but it wasn't enough to make a profit. Warner Bros. reportedly lost more than $ 100 million on the film's large budget, although the studio claims the losses were half that.
4. A rainy day in New York.
"A Rainy Day in New York" was Woody Allen's first film to follow the #MeToo movement. Allen, infamous for his relationship with Sun-Yi Previn, was also accused of sexual assault by his adopted daughter Dylan Farrow. Allen denies the charges. Renewed media interest in Allen postponed "A Rainy Day in New York". It was released quietly in October 2020 and flopped despite its stellar line-up.
5. Forward.
Forward did not cause controversy either in the United States or in other free-thinking countries of the world. But in places like Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia, Pixar fiction has been banned because the Cyclops police officer, Specter (voiced by Lena White), is a lesbian. And in Russia and Poland, where the gay propaganda law criminalizes the distribution of LGBT content among minors under 18, the character's dialogue has been changed.
6. Bird in a cage.
Bird in a Cage has been criticized for being the first film to stage COVID-19. In the film, the virus mutates and the world is in its fourth year of isolation. But perhaps it would have been better received if it hadn't been such a terrible movie (11 percent RT). A banal portrayal of a crisis that has killed nearly two million people worldwide is not what we all want. The Bird in the Cage was a catch for money, but very bad.
