20+ visual proofs that the life of lefties is full of trials
By Pictolic https://pictolic.com/article/20-visual-proofs-that-the-life-of-lefties-is-full-of-trials.htmlThe international Day of the left-handed is celebrated on August 13. This Day is intended to draw public attention to the problems faced by lefties in the right-handed world; to attract the attention of designers, manufacturers and sellers to the need to take into account the convenience of lefties when using various objects; to dispel the prejudices and superstitions that have surrounded lefties for centuries in various cultures; to encourage scientific research in the field of studying the phenomenon of left-handedness.
15% of people on our planet are born left-handed. That is, for every seventh person, the right hand is not a priority when performing any household chores, writing, or personal needs. Despite the fact that lefties are treated loyally and no longer try to retrain them, the life of these people still cannot be called easy.
It is not very convenient to write in such a notebook: the left hand always lies on a spiral that digs into the skin when you press the pen.
The usual condition of a left-handed person. Dirty hands, dirty sheets on which they write
The hand of a left-handed artist.
When the handle is attached on the right side.
Level 80 protection
In some foreign universities, the tables in the classrooms look exactly like this. It is absolutely inconvenient for lefties to write a lecture.
Most household tools are available for right-handed people. This is what a can looks like when a lefty opens it with a can opener.
However, they produce tools for left-handers. However, they cost more. In the photo — scissors for the left-handed on the right.
And this is how lefties use ordinary scissors. Firstly, the line along which you need to cut paper or fabric is blocked, and secondly, you have to make more effort, otherwise any material thicker than plain paper is crushed, and not cut through.
It seems a trifle, but for sensitive natures it also matters. Very often, drawings on tea mugs are printed only on one side. Therefore, lefties do not see them when they use the mugs for their intended purpose.
And here is a different problem.
The contents of the cup may also look different depending on where the handle is turned. For right-handed people, coffee foam forms a beautiful heart, and for left-handed people…
But drawings and design are trifles. It is more difficult to find measuring circles in which the designations will be on the right side for a left-handed person.
And again — only for the right-handed! Using some dishes with a spout can become very difficult.
It is absolutely inconvenient to use a credit card.
A bunch of devices are designed for right—handed people - from joysticks to computer mice.
So lefty has to type numbers on the nampad, if you need to blindly enter quickly and a lot. Some lefties change the functions of the keys on a computer mouse or acquire special ones and use them from the left side.
It is inconvenient to sum up the clock.
Musical instruments are also difficult for left-handed people to use, especially the guitar. There are often no left-handed versions of the instrument you like (or be prepared to pay 50% more than for a regular guitar), and most tablatures, musical notations and lessons that can be found on the web are written for right-handed guitarists.
Of course, when you Jimi Hendrix, Paul McCartney and Kurt Cobain, who, by the way, were also left-handed, you can make any guitar to order. Ordinary and especially novice musicians have a very hard time.
The gearshift lever, radio, rear view mirror, brake pedal are designed for use on the right. Driving a car for a left—handed person is a more time-consuming task than for right-handed people.
